Necklace

This vibrant coral and silver necklace would have been worn by an Amazigh (Berber) woman in Morocco. Cruciform pendants such as this one, are sometimes referred to as "Southern Crosses", indicating their probable origins in the regions that are present-day Mauretania and Mali. The shape of the pendant also emulates an amulet box suggesting that this jewel likely had a protective function.
