Bath Scraper in the Shape of a Lion
Not on view
The activities performed in hammams (bathhouses) necessitated specific utilitarian objects, such as bath scrapers used to slough off rough skin and buckets to pour water. Some bath scrapers featured undersides that were made coarse adding siliceous grit to the surface. However, this lion-shaped scraper was already abrasive owing to the siliceous component of its fabric.
