Manuscript Folios, Isaiah 12:2-13:12

Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
These folios are written in an archaizing biblical style in the Sahidic dialect of Coptic, which was spoken by Shenoute, the leader of the White Monastery Federation. The use of expensive parchment rather than less costly paper attests to the White Monastery’s thriving scriptorium and grand library.
