Vase
This piece was made using the cire-perdue, or “lost wax,” method, more traditional to bronze sculpture but perfected by Lalique for glass. A full-scale model of the design carved in wax would be covered with plaster; after the wax was melted, molten glass was poured into the reserve, which was broken away after the glass had solidified. Although molds could be used only once—effectively rendering each piece unique—a master design could be copied several times.
