Inscribed and decorated fragments of a connective element, Nefertiti names

New Kingdom, Amarna Period

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 122

Two fragments are placed together here. Although there is no direct join, the consistent rate of convergence over their surfaces, the double-sided working, and the and the relationship of the inscriptions all point to their belonging to a single original slab. One side showed Nefertiti as holding an offering table, the object of her offering is missing. The other side names the queen and presumably showed something similar.

The convergence suggests the fragment was part of a connective element.
