Kosode Fragment

Japan

Not on view

This textile fragment exhibits characteristics of kosode of the Kanbun period (1661–73), such as the drama of the pattern's sweeping curve and the large amount of empty space. A somewhat similar design, with the character for flower (hana) inside floral rosettes alongside a net pattern, appears in a kosode order book of 1664.
