The painter Léon Cogniet was attracted to deeply emotional subjects, and in 1843 represented the Renaissance master Tintoretto painting his young daughter after her tragic death in 1590. The painting was shown at the Salon, is now at the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Bordeaux, and was engraved by Martinet.
