The Little Park
Jean Honoré Fragonard French
Not on view
The craggy trees that Fragonard added to the foreground of the wash version of The Little Park on view nearby (ca. 1763–65) were carried over to a painted version and then, in turn, to this jewel-like work done in gouache, an opaque form of watercolor. Executed on a smaller scale than the painted version of the composition, it has a more silvery gray palette with touches of ocher and rust, suggesting early fall.
