Prince de Nassau-Siegen

Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun French

Not on view

The lavishly dressed Prince of Nassau (1745–1808) wears the ribbon of the Order of the White Eagle, Poland’s highest decoration of merit. In 1766, he joined the expedition of Louis Antoine de Bougainville to explore the South Pacific. He points to Bougainville’s 1771 travelogue, Voyage Around the World, which brought renown to the expedition’s participants.
