This is one of two pastel studies for Peace Bringing Back Abundance, the oil painting Vigée Le Brun submitted in 1783 as her reception piece to the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture. The artist demonstrates remarkable technical skill and close attention to color, complexity, and detail.
