George, Prince of Wales (later George IV) stands next to a tree with his horse, his left arm resting on the saddle and holding a plumed hat, his right hand on his hip. The prince wears a cavalry uniform embroidered with the Garter star, as well as long boots and spurs. The print was first published April 28, 1783, exhibited at the Society of Artists in 1783 (237), and based on a portrait that Gainsborough exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1782 (77).
