After Ludovico Carracci Italian
ca. 1598
Not on view
On folio 43 with three other prints: 27.78.1(155 and 157-158)
For more information on the Wilton album see entry for 27.78.1(1-428)
Attributed by Malvasia to Annibale Carracci, the print was reattributed by Bartsch to Francesco Brizio, an attribution accepted by Bohn (TIB 39 Commentary 3906.033). The subject of this print was previously identified as Saint Petronius Bishop of Bologna, though the fact that it was included in the 1598 book 'Esplicatione del Sacro Lenzuolo ove fu involto il Signore' allowed a correct identification of the cnetral figure as Alfonso Paleotti, Archbishop of Bologna. The composition is based on a drawing by Ludovico Carracci now at the Louvre (inv. no. 7703; 202 x 134 mm)
