Rectangular silk wrapper
This silk wrapper could have had a number of uses, both secular and religious. It could have served as presentation cloth for gifts on formal occasions, or it may have been used as a Koran stand cover or a ceremonial textile used in worship. The red silk cloth has an indigo-dyed dark blue cotton border with glued gold floral decoration. It comprises three layers of cloth; the painted silk surface is supported by an inner layer of felt and a third layer of muslin serving as a lining support.
