Flower Basket with “Beaded Bamboo Blind” Plaiting (Tamasudare-ami hanakago)
Yamamoto Chikuryūsai I Japanese
Like many bamboo masters, Yamamoto Chikuryūsai I created Chinese-style (karamono) baskets for use in sencha practices among the literati. This finely plaited flower basket was made with thin strips of timber bamboo woven into “beaded bamboo blind” plaiting (tamasudare-ami), derived from a karamono rattan technique. The object was finished with a coat of lacquer.
