Jade plaques and pendants were heated before they were tossed into the Sacred Cenote, causing them to shatter when they entered the cold water. These three jade plaques—one whole, and two reassembled from fragments—feature representations of rulers wearing zoomorphic headdresses, ear flares, and beaded necklaces or pectorals.
