Not on view

On June 30, 1520, allied Spanish and Tlaxcalan forces attempted their escape from Tenochtitlan, carrying gold they looted from Aztec palaces and then melted down. Fighting ensued, and many conquerors drowned in the canals, weighed down by the gold. This bar was likely lost on that night.
