Bowl

Lambayeque

Not on view

This ritual bowl was found in the left hand of the Priestess of Chornancap. Its repoussé (raised relief) designs include a central figure wearing a crescent headdress and holding a staff, surrounded by a bird, a serpent, and a feline head. The outermost band shows six creatures holding vessels and also wearing crescent headdresses, thought to be markers of elevated status.
