Maya rulers wore jade celt-like plaques in groups of three suspended from their belts; these examples feature finely incised images and text. The inscribed glyphs probably reference a ritual activity associated with an important individual’s arrival at an unidentified place.



Los soberanos mayas vestían placas de hachas partidas por grupos de tres, suspendidos de sus cinturones. Los ejemplos presentados aquí muestran finas incisiones de imágenes y texto. Las tres hachas de color verde oscuro tienen inscripciones de glifos que probablemente hagan referencia a alguna actividad ritual asociada con la llegada de un individuo de gran importancia a un lugar no identificado. Formaban parte de un conjunto para cinturón hallado en una tumba en la espectacular ciudad maya de Calakmul.
