Textile Design with Flower-Vine Border

18th century
Not on view
Textile design with a flower-vine border, possibly from the 18th century, featuring the type of flower and plant motifs that were typical of textile designs at the time, borrowing inspiration from the Orient and from Indian printed cotton textiles.

The design is made up of a large, undulating flower vine colored with shades of green and brown, and with stylized leaves and exotic flowers and flower buds that scroll out of the central undulating branch. The flowers and flower buds are colored with shades of green, yellow, pink, blue, purple and orange, and the leaves with shades of green, blue, purple, and brown. The bottom of the design contains a small pattern with white ovel motifs over a green line with offsetting pieces of grass.
