Bottle
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.Wavy lines form swirls in their two-tiered meander across the surface of this bottle. Incised crosshatching is highlighted with white pigment to create a contrasting texture and pattern. Spirals and scrolls appear on both historical and contemporary objects from the southeastern United States, such as Choctaw sashes, revealing a continuum in the use of this imagery.
