Untitled
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. This work demonstrates Sottsass’s debt to Bauhaus textile designers, who favored geometric patterning, but it also shows how he diverged from their approach. The irregularity and charm of Sottsass’s hand is apparent in his application of pattern and color to rectilinear forms. The overall effect, like that of Frank Stella’s Marrakech, is somewhat unsettling. It is almost as if Sottsass were imagining a cityscape in which the buildings accumulate organically and precariously.
