Theremin

Radio Corporation of America (RCA) American

On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 684

A player does not touch a theremin but by approaching the antennae interrupts an electromagnetic field and creates a musical tone. The right hand controls the pitch while the left hand the volume. Approxi-mately 500 theremins were originally produced by RCA in 1929, of which around 120 survive.
