This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
This illustrated volume of 1702 depicts in medals the principal events of Louis XIV’s reign. Beautifully bound books like this often served as diplomatic gifts. An enlarged edition appeared in 1723; the envoy Conrad Detlev, Count von Dehn, probably received that version.
