Four Little Combats: Children
Engraving, part of a set of four small, rectangular prints with black backgrounds, depicting combat scenes, likely influenced by German masters, particularly the Beham brothers. This print, last of the series, depicts a combat scene not different from the other three, except that this time, instead of the mythological heroes on horseback, the combat takes place between two children riding goats, surrounded by other children on foot. Most of the arms depicted in the picture are harmless, including arrow-less bows and windmills. One of the children is also absorbing the contents of a bowl with a syringe on the first plane, near the center.
