Door Gods Qin-Qiong and Yuchi Gong
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. These prints, featuring the same pair of door guards, are displayed together to demonstrate different stages of woodblock printing. The first sheet shows both guardians outlined only in black. In the second, the figures are filled in with black and yellow, and by the third, in black, yellow, and red. The final sheet shows the two guards in full color.
The prints were made using the woodblocks displayed at the center of the room. Each block is carved on both sides so that it can be used to impress two colors.
