Vishnu
Not on view
In its polished surface and lightly incised facial features and costume details, this handsome icon resembles Vishnu images from the Khmer hinterland more closely than those from the Mekong Delta. Nonetheless, its essential delta character prevails, thanks to its iconographic configuration, with the conch shell held aloft, echoing southern Indian conventions—a standard formula for the late sixth and seventh centuries.
