Study of a Standing Man Holding a Jug in his Right Hand and a Raised Glass in his Left
Gerrit Berckheyde, a painter of architectural views, was one of a group of artists active in Haarlem in the 1650s who created figure studies. Sometimes these artists drew from the same model, and some of them employed the figures in their paintings. There is a good deal of discussion concerning the attribution of the unsigned drawings by these artists because the styles of several are quite close - particularly those of Berckheyde and Cornelis Bega.
