Snake

Manufactory Saint-Honoré-les-Bains French
ca. 1870–1880
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 530
Snakes often featured on Palissy ware dishes and basins of the nineteenth century, typically placed in the center of compositions. This example of a glazed snake suggests that some factories may have made the reptiles as collectible figurines
