Chinese Zodiac Animal: Ox
Returned to lender
This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender. In contrast to mass-produced ceramic zodiac figurines, this imposing sculpture must have been created for members of the privileged class and used for solemn rituals before it was eventually interred. Dressed in the distinctive robe of a Daoist deity, the figure was clearly intended to inspire veneration and awe.
