This work of art was on loan to the museum and has since been returned to its lender.
By the fourteenth century, incense burners that loosely resembled archaic tripod cauldrons were made in both bronze and ceramic. Unlike massive cauldrons, this bronze censer is moderately sized and perfect for display on a table. This vessel type became a model for potters to mimic in celadon.
