On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum. This censer is a typical example of a faithful copy of ancient bronzes from the imperial Qing workshop in Beijing. In 1743, the Qianlong emperor sent an antiquarian catalogue to the imperial foundry with a directive to select two models for new vessels, including a Han dynasty hill censer like the current one.
