Wine container in the form of a goose
On loan to The Met
This work of art is currently on loan to the museum. This goose-shaped wine container, particularly its extended neck and standing posture, imitates the shape of archaic wine containers (fuzun). While the vessel exhibits a more realistic depiction of the bird, a development that began from the thirteenth century, it still embodies an archaic taste in the generalized expression of the bird’s wings and tail feathers.
