Ceremonial Cloth (pua sungkit)
This ceremonial cloth (pua) has wonderfully balanced designs featuring strong borders in red to each side of the intricate designs at the center of the cloth and finely detailed borders at each end that close off the design. The textile retains its strong color--a deep, rich red--and features intricate design elements. These are offset by the contrasting soft golden color of the patterning with fine details outlined in a darker tone of rich red brown. These designs feature a complex interlocking pattern known as the Buah Berasok motif used only for high-status cloth, an indication of the caliber of the textile, the ceremonies in which it was used and the status and rank of its former owners. The cloth is supple and in extremely good condition.
