Welcoming Descent of the Bodhisattva Jizō
Not on view
The inscriptions added to this painting help link it to worship of Jizō at Kasuga Shrine, a major religious site in the ancient capital of Nara. Jizō is held as the original form of one of the Shinto deities worshipped at Kasuga, a patron deity of one of early Japan’s most powerful families, the Fujiwara.
