The Scottish folklorist and writer Donald Mackenzie produced a series of books on world mythology. In this volume he focused on Mesopotamian religion and Babylonian and Assyrian narratives such as creation myths and the romance of Ishtar and Tammuz (Dumuzid), although the book also contains a more wide-ranging survey of ancient Mesopotamian and related history and culture, including biblical connections and reception in Classical tradition.
