Locket

between 1870 and 1930
Not on view
This book has two hinged covers and one leaf, which was probably meant for photographs to be adhered to. The front cover is decorated in Art Nouveau style. It has an irregularly shaped edge with a vine motif and depicts an asymmetrical design of pendulous flowers and a panel with a bejeweled spider dropping from its web. The rest of the book is undecorated. There is a clasp on the foredge, and a hanging loop attached to the top edge at the spine. Signed "DEPOSE" on the back cover. -- description by Mindell Dubansky in consultation with Lynn Heckman
