Cup with handle
This unique cup is an excellent example of a Goryeo celadon that was made and decorated using various techniques. The artisan created a foliated rim and attached two sculpted fish to the cup’s interior. While incised lines articulate the fishes’ features, sanggam inlay is used to create the petal patterns and floral motifs on the exterior and, on the interior, a waterside scene of waterfowl, reeds, and flowers. Lastly the handle with cloud design was affixed and then the cup was glazed entirely. When the cup was in use, the interior scene would have seemingly come to life with the waterfowl wading along the edge of the liquid and the fish submerged within.
