[La Comtesse Reclining in Dark Dress with Chain Around Neck]

As early as 1856-57 the countess experimented with reclining poses, sometimes even lying on the floor. Here, she is wearing the same dress she has on in The Countess de Castiglione as Anne Boleyn (Cat. no. 43) but without the crinoline.
