Die Heilige Katharina von Alexandria

Die Heilige Katharina, hier das Rad haltend, auf dem sie der Legende nach gefoltert wurde, war eine weithin verehrte jungfräuliche Märtyrerin. Schön, gebildet und adelig spielte ihre Verehrung am französischen Hof eine große Rolle. Obwohl diese Statuette aus einem Konvent in Clermont-Ferrand stammen soll, weisen das feine Email auf Gold, die Frisur der Heiligen und die mit kostbaren Edelsteinen besetzte Dekoration auf die Arbeit Pariser Goldschmiede hin. Die Figur könnte von einem Schrein stammen, wo sie mit denen anderer Heiliger in ein architektonisches Ensemble eingefasst war.
