Quilt, pieced
This quilt has a striking overall composition, and many of the printed fabrics used show the variety of the types of printed cottons available in the nineteenth century. The added complication to the triangles created by the quilt maker by attaching tiny right triangles to two sides of the larger triangles, echoing the overall pattern of the quilt, is quite unusual. The quilt’s appliqued foliage border is similar of the borders found other quilts made in New York State during the same time period. The small leaves quilted into the alternating white triangles show the proficiency and design skill of the maker.
