«The Met is a prime destination for jazz this spring, as Met Museum Presents will be hosting an exciting lineup of iconic jazz masters.»

Theo Bleckmann kicks off our roster of concerts with Songs in the Key of D on Saturday, February 7. The Grammy-nominated vocalist will present a unique evening of programming inspired by the Costume Institute's fall exhibition, Death Becomes Her: A Century of Mourning Attire. This performance is free with Museum admission.

The Vijay Iyer Trio will celebrate the release of their latest album, Break Stuff, in the dramatic setting of The Temple of Dendur in The Sackler Wing on Saturday, March 7. Performing alongside Iyer will be trio members Stephan Crump on bass and Marcus Gilmore on drums.

The incomparable Charles Lloyd returns to the Met on Saturday, April 18, to perform his sweeping new masterpiece, Wild Man Dance Suite, which blends traditional jazz with visceral sounds and textures from antiquity. Jazz Journal UK praised the work, saying that "A Charles Lloyd concert like [Wild Man Dance Suite] leaves you feeling joyful, spiritually refreshed."

Having Charles Lloyd at the Met is always an electrifying event, and this upcoming program marks his first appearance since his sold-out performance in the Temple in March 2013, when audiences lined the Egyptian galleries to get in to this exciting evening of music making. The memorable occasion, which celebrated his seventy-fifth birthday, even featured a giant cake that was wheeled out to the stage as the sun set over Central Park.

And don't miss the newly announced Jazz and Colors at the Met: The Masterworks Edition as well: fifteen different jazz groups performing in fifteen different galleries throughout the Museum on Friday, January 30—including our own resident Balcony Bar performers, ETHEL!
