In his fall-winter 1955 collection, Dior experimented with layering, creating suits that offered equally "finished" looks whether or not the jacket was worn. Like another suit in the collection from the same donor and thought to be from the same season (2009.300.443a–d), the pieces work together in intriguing combination. Here the shoulders of the jacket are elevated and made to stand away from the body, allowing more of the blouse to be seen. The way in which the front of the jacket has been folded to create this effect, as well as the couture finish of the piece and the provenance, strongly suggests a Dior attribution.
