Design for a rose window

Various artists/makers

Not on view

Purely geometric in design, the windows in this drawing do not feature the scrolls or ornate tracery generally associated with the popular Gothic style. This simplicity may reflect the confines of the client’s budget: the simpler the window, the less the cost. Despite these constraints, this drawing showcases the beauty of Tiffany Studios Favrile glass. The drawing is unusual in that the design purposefully extends beyond the edge of the paper and the windows on the right side are merely suggested with slight sketches in graphite. This drawing may have been used to demonstrate the overall design scheme of the window to a client.
