Work table
Martin Carlin French
Not on view
Martin Carlin excelled in producing both Sèvres-mounted furniture as well as pieces veneered with Japanese lacquer. In fact, the cabinetmaker is known to have made different versions of this elegant oval table with either porcelain or lacquer. Here the lower shelf consists of European imitation lacquer intended to match the top of black and gold Japanese lacquer. Carlin’s furniture was marketed through the marchands merciers Simon-Philippe Poirier and Dominique Daguerre.
