The finely articulated head is provided with a suspension hole at the top of the crown, and there is another hole in the underside of the neck. The head seems not to have been part of a piece of sculpture but to have served independently, attached to a utensil. It calls to mind the weights that came into use during Roman and medieval times for the weighing of objects.
