Terracotta kylix (drinking cup)
Attributed to the Euergides Painter
Interior, youth with keras (drinking horn)
Exterior, obverse, panther attacking fawn, and youth;
reverse, athletes and trainer
The inclusion of the panther felling a fawn in the iconography of this cup is noteworthy; the youth running away makes the animal encounter very immediate. The representation may have something to do with prowess and cowardice.
