The front is printed with a heavyset John Bull striding across a stage, wearing a set of wings and winged boots, carrying a large pen and a card that reads "Prospectus No. 1, December 1895." A naked boy peeks at him from under the curtain at the back of the stage. This was one of two designs by Beardsley printed on the covers of the prospectus advertizing "The Savoy" magazine to prospective subscribers.
