The ogival lattice pattern seen in this silk was one of the most popular designs for textiles in the Ottoman court. Popular in both China and Mamluk Egypt, the ogival design made its way into the Ottoman visual repertoire, where it was combined with the floral style favored by the imperial court. The tall, narrow, irregular shape of this silk textile suggests it was cut for use as a sleeve of a robe or other garment.
