Page of Calligraphy from the Bellini Album

Not on view

This page of calligraphy is a signed example of Mir’Ali’s nasta’liq executed in cutout paper. The sheet is in "negative" form—that is, the sheet with the cut letters removed. Second versions of each sheet theoretically could have been made. This page is also signed by Sangi ‘Ali Badakhshi, a highly regarded découpé master employed in the library of the Uzbek ruler. He studied with the son of ‘Abd-Allah, the master who collaborated with Sultan ‘Ali.
