Bowl with Persian Inscription

A group of ceramics produced in fourteenth-century Iran has traditionally been associated with the city of Sultanabad, where many examples were found. These so-called Sultanabad wares, however, comprise many differing types of ceramics - and, thus far no kilns have been found at the site. This Sultanabad bowl incorporates a loosely-written Persian inscription that hints at the function of the vessel, reading: "As long as the soup is good, do not worry if the bowl is pretty!"
